Attention: Mazda Service and Parts Managers
Subject: Upcoming Special Service Program 96 - Takata Airbag Inflators
Due to a proactive, preventative investigation by Mazda and NHTSA, Mazda plans to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP96) to replace certain air bag inflators manufactured by Takata Corporation and TK Holdings, Inc. on vehicles originally sold or registered in Florida, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. The driver and/or front passenger frontal airbags may not deploy properly in the event of an accident.
A defect determination has not yet been made. A collaborative investigation with NHTSA is a preventive action measure to fully understand the scope of this issue.
Potentially affected Mazda vehicles (approximately 34,600 vehicles)

We just got this, too. I can't say I didn't see it coming.

Evasive language like "Special Service Program" really rubs me the wrong way. Call a spade a spade.

I kinda hope my 8 gets recalled, maybe they'll fix the rattle from the airbag cover on the steering wheel and I might even get a not-cracked passenger dash cover out of the deal.

Well there's a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that means basically "We know there's a common issue, here's how to fix it but once you're out of warranty, GTFAC"
Then there's SSP, which is like saying "Yeah there's a SERIOUS issue, but instead of a full-on recall which sounds bad, we'll come up with some rules and regulations on how to handle this ourselves.... we might add mileage or age limitations to the repair..."
Oh, and don't forget MSP (Mazda Service Program) "We fucked something up, and some people may complain about it (noise, vibration, etc) but it's not harmful so as long as you bring your car in COMPLAINING ABOUT THE ISSUE, we'll fix it for you for free. Again, given our terms and conditions of mileage and age."

I don't get why this is just in the earth's schweddy ballsacks. If you buy an affected car outside of Florida to make sure it doesn't have any old people smell and then take it TO Florida...??? Wat?
And WHY ON EARTH IS HOUSTON NOT INCLUDED? That place feels bad every time I go. Bad. Just bad. As in, it's so sticky that your farts become a sentient cloud of stink-goo and linger around to hunt nutria.
